About the event

Dr. Amin Saikal will deliver a lecture examining the major historical features that have shaped Afghanistan’s modern trajectory and the deeper forces that contributed to the failure of America’s intervention. The talk will trace key turning points in Afghanistan’s political and social development and show how long term patterns of governance, conflict, and external engagement set constraints on policy choices and outcomes. Key to his discussion will be his recently published book, entitled How to Lose a War: The Story of America’s Intervention in Afghanistan.
