About
This course explores the complex and evolving role of identity in American politics in the 21st century. Students will examine how race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and other aspects of identity influence political behavior, policy preferences, and the broader political landscape. Through a combination of historical context, theoretical frameworks, and contemporary case studies, the class will analyze how identities are constructed, represented, and mobilized in social and political arena. We will also investigate the intersections of identity with key social, economic, and political issues, such as immigration, voting rights, and social justice movements. By the end of the course, students will gain a deeper understanding of the ways in which identity shaped undue privilege and inequality in the United States, providing them with critical tools to engage in informed discussions and analyses of current political dynamics.
